The Sacrifice Zone<\/a> is a powerful film exploring the legacy of environmental racism in the Ironbound district of Newark NJ featuring one of our amazing HAL community partners, Maria L\u00f3pez-Nu\u00f1ez of the Ironbound Community Corporation<\/a>! <\/p>\n\n\n\n

THE FILM: The Sacrifice Zone<\/strong>
The Ironbound district in Newark, New Jersey is one of the most toxic neighborhoods in America. Maria L\u00f3pez-Nu\u00f1ez and her colleagues are waging a war for environmental justice, fighting to prevent surrounding factories from obtaining \u201cpermits to pollute.\u201d Working in collaboration with her community and local politicians for the right to breathe clean air, their efforts have recently paid off in a groundbreaking new law<\/a> to protect the state\u2019s most vulnerable communities from polluters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI can\u2019t call it anything other than a sacrifice zone – a zone that\u2019s been deemed these lives don\u2019t matter as much.\u201d<\/em> \u2013 Maria L\u00f3pez-Nu\u00f1ez<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Oct 12-18: Princeton Environmental Film Festival<\/strong>
Princeton Library\u2019s 14th Environmental Film Festival will screen The Sacrifice Zone<\/a> free of charge.
